Interventional Radiology / Special Procedures Interventional Radiologists diagnose and treat numerous types of medical conditions by using imaging techniques to guide them as they thread narrow tubes (catheters) and other very small instruments through blood vessels and other pathways of the body to the site of a problem. Some conditions that can now be successfully treated with these types of procedures may have previously required surgery. Interventional Radiology procedures rarely require general anesthesia or hospitalization and often involve less pain and smaller incisions than traditional surgery.
