What are visiting hours?
Visiting hours at Hoboken University Medical Center generally run from 1 to 8 p.m. Since our top priority is our patients, some units have more limited visiting hours to provide patients with extra time to rest. It’s wise to check with the nursing staff about the best time to visit. The nursing care coordinator can make special arrangements for those who wish to visit outside of normal visiting hours.

Are children allowed to visit?
Generally yes. The ICU and similar departments have different guidelines. Again, it’s wise to check with the nursing staff about the best time to visit

The hospital accepts payments from Medicare, Medicaid, and most major insurers and HMOs.

If insurance covers a percentage of the cost, what is the billing procedure for the balance?
Soon after discharge patients will be notified about the cost of their care. Once all insurance payments have been received by the hospital, patients will be billed for the balance. Payments can be made in several ways and extended or discounted payment arrangements can be made in some cases. Physicians who provide care in the hospital may submit separate bills to insurers and patients.

Why did the hospital’s name change?
St. Mary Hospital became Hoboken University Medical Center in February 2007, when the City of Hoboken assumed ownership of the 144-year old, hospital from its former owner Bon Secours Health System, Inc. The name change not only signifies the change from private to public ownership, but a new vision to become the leading choice in community health care through capital projects, expansion of services and enhanced patient amenities.

What is the Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority?
The Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority is an 11-member, autonomous board of directors charged with overseeing Hoboken University Medical Center. The Authority generally meets the last Wednesday of each month, 7:00 p.m. in Assumption Hall at Hoboken University Medical Center. Meetings are open the public and members of the community are welcome to attend.
