Hoboken, NJ, April 15, 2009 – National Volunteer Week is commemorated April 19 – 25, 2009, and Hoboken University Medical Center gives heartfelt thanks to the 121 dedicated participants of its 2008 Volunteer Program who donated a total of 13,025 hours of service to the hospital.
The theme for National Volunteer Week is Celebrating People In Action. Hoboken University Medical Center’s Auxiliary garnered recognition for their service and received the 2008 Governor’s Award for Volunteer Program/Group on November 14, 2008. The Auxiliary is a group of committed volunteers who sponsor the gift shop at the hospital and the thrift shop on the corner of 6th and Garden Streets in Hoboken, as well as hosting many fundraisers during the year. As a result of their efforts, the Auxiliary was able to donate one million dollars to the hospital’s new Emergency Room and other initiatives.
